The receptionist is super friendly. Perfect location. The room is fine, the bathroom a bit dark. It has a pool, which is great for windy days, even with a bar. Breakfast was a bit limited.

We stayed at the Hotel Zafiria in Matala in July 2025 for a total of 10 nights. We booked through the tour operator TUI and were looking for a reasonably priced hotel. We were greeted very warmly by the gentleman at the reception desk, and after a short wait in the hotel café/bar, we were allowed into our room earlier than we expected. The room we had had apparently recently been refurbished with new furniture. We liked the look of it. Overall, we had a positive impression of the room – especially considering the price we paid for this hotel. The bed and pillows weren't particularly comfortable, but it was adequate. The bathroom was new, but did have its flaws (e.g., the shower head holder was broken, and the drain in the bathroom didn't smell particularly good). The balcony was relatively large and faced the street. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the evening and watching the hustle and bustle of the street for a while. The windows looked brand new, and it was never noisy in our room when we closed them. The breakfast at the hotel was, as expected, unfortunately very monotonous. But it was sufficient! There was almost everything you need – just always the same. We were fine with that. We skipped the coffee, however, as we didn't like it at all. We particularly appreciated the friendliness of the staff – whether in housekeeping or at breakfast. Everyone was really nice! We also found the pool area very nice; it was never busy. There were enough loungers. There was a shower and a bar for cocktails and ice cream. If we were to consider vacationing in Crete again, we wouldn't want to stay in Matala again. It was generally a bit too far away from the action in the north for us. However, if you have a car, want to stay inexpensively, and enjoy the south, you can't go wrong with the Hotel Zafiria.

Less than a 5-minute walk to the beach, almost directly near the bustling center. Despite this, the rooms are quiet. Very clean and tidy. Friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommended.

An ideal hotel in the center of fairytale Matala. Rooms for those who don't expect anything fancy on vacation. Clean and tidy, friendly and discreet service. Breakfast is adequate. In the heart of a village bursting with atmosphere. Close to the beach, taverns, and all the charms of this place. We've made two more reservations.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 days and I believe that in terms of value for money, it fully deserves 5 stars. The rooms are cozy and small, but cleaned daily and kept very tidy. The staff is pleasant and friendly. There is a nice pool and a lovely backyard. Right across from the hotel, there is a supermarket where you can buy almost everything you need at a reasonable price. It’s just a 2-minute walk to the sea. The only thing I think could be improved is the breakfast. Unfortunately, the menu was rather limited, but still, it was possible to have a decent meal in the morning.

We were pleasantly surprised. The rooms are small but clean. They include a refrigerator, balcony, and air conditioning. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The breakfast is modest, but there's still enough to fill you up. The pool is small, but adequate and well-maintained, and the overall location is truly perfect. You can get to the beach quickly and enjoy a beautiful view at breakfast in the morning. If you don't need luxury and are willing to accept the corresponding compromises, you'll feel truly at home there. We would book it again anytime.

Colonial-style hotel just steps from Matala Beach, superb. Very clean, with a reasonably sized pool and a welcoming bar, very pleasant after a day at the beach. The receptionists are very attentive, speak French, and are extremely courteous. Various and good breakfast. Without a doubt, one of our best hotels in Crete. Thank you ❤️

Small hotel in a prime location right in Matala. The rooms are really small, but very tidy and clean. The staff really make an effort and are very friendly and helpful. Despite the central location in Matala, it's very quiet. The air conditioning works well and is very quiet—as it should be. The pool water is pleasant and not overly chlorinated, and the pool bar has reasonable prices. Breakfast in the morning is a great place to sit right on the colorful street in Matala. We would come again

Perfect beds with excellent soundproofing (the music was on until 4am due to the festival and nothing could be heard in the room). Perfect pool and sun loungers. Terrific location, right in the middle of everything. Very good staff at the reception and the cleaning ladies. Breakfast needs a little upgrade.

The hotel was a surprise: well-maintained rooms, well-equipped, clean, and a lovely pool – elevated and covered, set back from the road. Everything was very well maintained. Good breakfast. It's within walking distance of the center. The hotel parking lot is a bit small, but it's no problem finding a nearby, free parking spot. I highly recommend this hotel.
